I received a call from Dr. Poe letting the State Autism Society (ASA-WV) members know of the passing away of Ellie McCartney, who was a dedicated worker in the autism community. Our hearts and prayers go out to Ms. McCartney's family. Ellie worked for WVU as a behavior specialist serving children with autism in early intervention. Her compassion and support will be greatly missed.

A member of Ellie's family contacted me and stated the family requested all contributions honoring Ellie be sent to the state autism society (ASA-WV). The society appreciates such a compassionate decision, and we ask everyone keep Ellie's family in your thoughts and prayers.

The Autism Society of America - West Virginia (ASA-WV) is a chapter of the Autism Society of America, which was founded in 1965 by a small group of parents working on a volunteer basis out of their homes. Over the last 35 years, the Society has developed into the leading source of information and referral on autism. Today, over 20,000 members are connected through a working network of over 200 chapters in nearly every state. ASWV and ASA membership continues to grow as more and more parents and professionals unite to form a collective voice representing the autism community.

ASA-WV is dedicated to increasing public awareness about autism and the day-to-day issues faced by individuals with autism, their families and the professionals with whom they interact. The Society's mission is to provide information and education, support research and advocate for programs and services for the autism population.

ASA-WV serves the entire state of West Virginia along with various local chapters.
